South & East Friday October 6, 2006 Pahang environs ‘generally good’ By ROSLINA MOHAMAD KUANTAN: Pahang's environment quality last year was generally good except for a slight decrease in its marine water. Its air quality, monitored from three stations in Indera Mahkota and Balok Baru in Kuantan and Batu Embun in Jerantut, registered good readings of 50% and moderate air quality of 85% at most times. The figures were published in the Department of Environment’s annual report released late last month. On the quality of its marine water, the DOE had detected e-Coli at most of the state’s coastal areas especially in Telok Gelora and Muhibbah Balok. “There was good news, however, as there was a decrease in oil and grease readings along the coastal line except in Telok Gelora and Tioman Island . The report also stated that water quality in the state’s nine water basins was generally good and up to the national mark except for Sungai Balok which was classified as “medium clean.” Pahang’s other water basins are Sungai Anak Endau, Sungai Pontian, Sungai Cherating, Sungai Bebar, Sungai Merchong, Sungai Rompin, Sungai Pahang and Sungai Kuantan. |
