Event in remembrance of ex-policemen
PEKAN: Some 160 ex-policemen from Pahang including those who served during the pre- Independence and Emergency period were duly remembered during a special ceremony here recently. The event, held for the third consecutive year, was also in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. OCPD Supt Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said the programme was specially arranged to honour the past contributions of the ex-policemen to society and the country.

He said that those invited were ex-policemen, home guards, special constables and widows. “Some of them hold important portfolios such as village chief and penghulu. “In fact, they are still contributing and serving as the eyes and ears for the police in combating criminal activities,” he said when met at the district police headquarters here. State deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Shariff was present to grace the ceremony. Later, he presented some basic necessities to the groups contributed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Pekan MP. Supt Mohd Jasmani said the event served as a platform for the expolicemen to maintain closer ties with one another. “Many of them have not been in contact for years and this is a good opportunity to exchange greetings,” he said. He said the veterans could offer tips to serving personnel and spur them to be good and responsible cops. Supt Mohd Jasmani urged those who had retired from the force to join ex-policemen's associations so that their welfare could be looked after.
